Supported Calls: 2022 Lee Schipper Scholarship extended for application until April 4, 2022.

VREF support the Call for Lee Schipper Scholarship out for application. The Schipper family and the WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities are now accepting applications for the 2022 Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarship for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency.

Since 2018 the Volvo Research and Educational Foundation has supported the scholarship through a grant as well as linking the scholars to the VREF network of researchers. The applications are now open for 2022. Provided jointly by the Schipper Family and WRI, the Scholarship will award two extraordinary candidates to advance transformative research in efficient and sustainable transport. In addition, for the third consecutive year, an additional Scholarship will be awarded to a young researcher from the African continent.

2021 scholars Susan Gichuna, Tamara Kerzhner, and Wei Wei will present their research at the upcoming Transforming Transportation conference in February 2022.

How to Apply

The first selection phase requires an expression of interest, to be completed here by April 4, 2022. Interested applicants can learn more about this process in the Scholarship guidelines. From this first phase, up to seven candidates for each of the Global and African Scholarships will advance to the next selection round and will be notified in May 2022 when a more detailed research proposal will be required. Final awardees will be notified in August 2022.

The VREF invites PhD students and advanced master students from Sub-Saharan African (SSA) universities to apply for a Mobility Grant (MG) to support a visit to another SSA university with up to SEK 25 000.

Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarships for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency targets supporting the momentum of Lee Schipper’s contribution to the international policy dialogue in these fields.

This yearly award is aimed at supporting young individual researchers and students in is pursuance.
