Key technical support to Chinese Ministry of Transport

CUSTReC act as the key technical support to the Chinese Ministry of Transport in Designing and implementing the National First Urban Public Transport Initiative-Public Transit Metropolis Construction Project.

By adopting the theory of transit-oriented city development as its strategic direction, the project aims to improve the standard of public transport service, and address issues such as traffic congestion and environmental and energy pressure in a more comprehensive way. The project provides a collaborative mechanism linking the MoT, the province and the city to work together. Currently, 37 cities have been selected as pilots through application, evaluation and selection, ranging from mega cities like Beijing and Shenzhen, through big cities like Chengdu and Nanjing, down to medium size cities like Baoding and Zhuzhou. CUSTReC has provided key technical support to the MoT for this project, including: formulating the project implementation plan, developing a public transit metropolis evaluation indicator system, organizing national experts to review the applications and supporting candidate cities as they prepare their implementation plans.
