Dr. Cantillo is an associate professor of the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at Universidad del Norte, Colombia. He received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from Universidad del Norte (1987); his M.S. in Traffic and Transportation Engineering from Universidad del Cauca, Colombia (1990) and his Ph.D. in Engineering Sciences (Transportation) from Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (2005). He joined Universidad del Norte in 1990. Professor Cantillo´s research interests include transportation modeling, logistics, transportation economics and traffic engineering. He is now working on innovative models to estimate the impact of transport policies.
Dr. Cantillo has been involved as Principal Investigator on several projects related to transportation modeling and logistics. He was the project manager or Principal Investigator for several Colciencias-funded Strategic Research Programs: an innovative system for sustainability and growth in a globalized steel market; the structure and implementation of the conceptual model of quantifying national and international passenger mobilization in transport systems, phases I and II; management models to improve operational efficiency in Logistics World Service SA and Comercial Plastider, S.A; and research to develop and implement transport models and propose infrastructure projects for increasing the competitiveness of Colombian products. Dr. Cantillo was also involved as PI for the AMBA and Transmetrosponsored research to design the Barranquilla´s Metropolitan BRT route system. Dr. Cantillo has been involved in numerous projects in the past six years with a combined contract value of 3 million dollars. Professor Cantillo has published more than 25 papers in leading transportation journals and conferences on transport modeling, traffic engineering and logistics.
