Ongoing projects

Several projects under the FUT Program have a research focus well aligned with the new theme.


  • The CoE Bus Rapid Transit + (BRT+) established in 2010 and led by Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile (PUC) with Prof. Juan Carlos Muñoz as Project Leader. Other core partners are: Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), the University of Pretoria, the University of Sydney, and EMBARQ – The WRI Ross Center for Sustainable Cities, including its network of centres of sustainable transport.

  • The African Centre of Excellence for Studies in Public and Non-motorised Transport (ACET)established in 2008 and led by the Centre for Transport Studies at the University of Cape Town, with Professor Roger Behrens as Project Leader. Other core partners include the Department of Transportation and Geotechnical Engineering at the University of Dar es Salaam, and the Institute for Development Studies at the University of Nairobi.

  • Integrating paratransit and BRT in the developing world: Global metropolitan case studies and user perspectives led by UC Berkeley, with Prof. Robert Cervero as Project Leader
  • Studies and Capacitybuilding of Bus Rapid Transit in China co-led by the China Urban Sustainable Transport Research Center, Beijing and CoE ALC-BRT, with Associate Prof. Xumei Chen and Prof. Juan Carlos Muñoz as Project Leader

MOBILITY GRANT 2020 - MAC-MG 2020

The VREF invites PhD students and advanced master students from Sub-Saharan African (SSA) universities to apply for a Mobility Grant (MG) to support a visit to another SSA university with up to SEK 25 000.

 STUDY VISIT GRANT 2020

The VREF invites PhD students and researchers in early stages of their career to apply for a Study Visit Grant to be supported with up to SEK 30 000.

Each year the Håkan Frisinger Foundation for Transportation Research awards a scholarship to a prominent researcher.

Lee Schipper Memorial Scholarships for Sustainable Transport and Energy Efficiency targets supporting the momentum of Lee Schipper’s contribution to the international policy dialogue in these fields.

This yearly award is aimed at supporting young individual researchers and students in is pursuance.
